Lobbying and European Union

In the UE lobbying activities consist in two types of services:

• Providing information and making the bureaucratic language of the European institutions easier – back office activity
• Organizing the “pressure” activity on the various decision-making parties involved–front office activity

Lobbying includes a series of activities:

• Legislative/political monitoring, mapping of interests and public decision-makers (back office)
• Taking part in public and private meetings with decision-makers, creation of an effective coalition – coalition building – focused on a specific interest (front office).

These activities call for a lobbyist with certain competencies:

• “horizontal” skills (spread throughout various subjects) and “vertical” skills (in-depth knowledge on each matter);
• Relational and communication skills.
